Importer security filing (ISF) is what CBP calls the electronic transmission of data elements required by the SAFE Port Act for cargo shipped by vessel from foreign seaports destined for importation into the United States. These data elements are in addition to those already transmitted by the carrier under the 24 hour rule and by the importer for entry purposes. The use of additional information will allow CBP to assess risk and target suspicious containers and cargo earlier, helping to identify high-risk shipments to prevent smuggling and ensure cargo safety and security.
